Airship sits in front of your dev server rather than inside it: no plugin, no config change, no framework coupling. The proxy injects the overlay bundle into HTML responses and passes everything else — including HMR's websocket — straight through. That is what lets the same editor drive a Vite app, a Next app or a static site.
